CAMM research hub opens in Endicott

Investment group aids local company, STOC looking to help area projects
[3/6/2008] - The STOC Angel Investment Network is staying close to home and investing in companies with local roots. The group, which seeks to provide financing to early-stage companies, recently announced that some of its members invested $200,000 in Threadsmith of Vestal, helping the custom-embroidery company attract an additional $1 million in venture capital from other sources to expand its business and hire about 12 employees, including some software engineers. more...

Angel Investment Network to Help Businesses - STOC Featured on News 10 Now

Seminar Offers View of Binghamton

Taking STOC In Our Future
[10/15/2007] - Business startup funding and recognizing young professionals: The two may not seem to go together, but the Southern Tier Opportunity Coalition said both are key to new initiatives the organization is launching to help stimulate economic growth in the region. The nonprofit academic and business alliance is introducing two efforts: an angel investment network to link investors with local technology or manufacturing businesses, and a youth recognition program called "20 in their 20's" to highlight and promote the accomplishments of 20 outstanding community members ages 20 through 29. more...


BU Students Look to Plug the 'Brain Drain'
[10/12/2007] - BINGHAMTON -- Until recently, Binghamton University senior Kelly Andryshak wasn't familiar with the term "brain drain." "I didn't even know what it meant," she said. Catalyst for Innovation 2007
[9/13/2007] - On September 12, BInghamton University's Watson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and STOC presented Catalyst for Innovation 2007. The informative event was hosted by Dean Seshu Desu and suceeded in bringing together local technology businesses such as IBM, Endicott Interconnect, Lockheed Martin, Ensco, Diamond Visionics and many others with University staff in order to explore challenges facing technology companies and solutions that can be developed through partnership. In addition, The University also announced the new VISUAL Enterprise software, donated by Synergy Resource Systems and Infor Global Solutions, will now be available to their engineering and management students. Manufacturing is NOT dead in the Southern Tier!
[6/25/2007] - That is one of the headlines from a recently released study completed by the NYS Association of Counties in conjunction with Broome Tioga Workforce Development, and lead by Isabelle Andrews of NYSAC for Terry Stark of BTWFNY. A couple of other “sound bites”: “Wages are increasing for Advanced Manufacturing, to a current average of $63,100 per year” and “Advanced Manufacturing makes up a higher portion of total employment in the Southern Tier than it does elsewhere in NYS.” Isabelle’s presentation was enthusiastically received at the recent annual meeting of the BTWFNY, and STOC has obtained a copy of the presentation for your review, follow the link below (requires power point).  To View the study itself, log on to the members only section on the bar to the left, and select document library. STOC's Reinvent the Region Featured on News Channel 34
[6/6/2007] - One of the Southern Tier Opportunity Coalition's current initiatives is to Nationally document the reinventing of our region. Assisting us in that effort is Richard Berman, former editor of the NBC Nightly News. On Tuesday June 5th, STOC President, Diana Bendz highlighted the initiiative on Channel 34's News. Berman has contacts with national media outlets, allowing Binghamton and its assets to be seen across the country. Building up Brownfield’s, as was done with the Gannett Building, is one area Berman wants to focus on. Another is giving more attention to Binghamton University. Follow the Link to see! link

Coalition to Discuss Economic Development
[4/7/2007] - Greater Binghamton Coalition Executive Director Jim DiMascio will discuss the status of his group's economic development initiatives at a networking café from 5 to 7 p.m. April 9 at Traditions at the Glen. The event is part of the Southern Tier Opportunity Coalition's series of networking cafés to bring community members together and help address economic growth in the region. Topics DiMascio will address include the establishment of the Greater Binghamton One-Stop Business Center and Greater Binghamton Business Development Incubator, new information on www.greaterbinghamton.com, the coalition's strategy for marketing Greater Binghamton to the rest of the nation and world, and the group's efforts to secure sustainable funding.
