Andrew Block

Andrew Block is the Director of Community Relations in the City of Binghamton. Andrew spent a semester at La Universidad de Chile in Santiago, Chile as an undergraduate and earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Vassar College. Active as a tutor, he utilized his Spanish skills to teach English as a Second Language students reading and math. In his current role, Block “handles all the tasks of [his] difficult position with skill and a maturity well beyond his age,” notes his supervisor, who commends his openness. “You can see this transparency in the city website that he manages as one of his tasks.” The leadership he brings to the city of Binghamton has benefited from his academic work and his senior thesis – a historical analysis of a Harlem-based community organization that provided a model for civic engagement for African-Americans. Noted for his “determined work ethic, pushing himself often late into the night to work for the community,” Block is one who “not only listen[s] to constituent concerns, but also actively inquire[s] – reaching out to non-profits, faith-based groups, student associations and business associations...”
